The DIRECTV packages currently available are among the best in today’s pay television marketplace. DIRECTV satellite packages also give you great value for your entertainment dollar. Your local channels are also included in most areas.
Many DIRECTV packages give the customer a monthly bill credit for the first year. This is designed to give you a full year of programming at a reduced price so that you can see all that satellite television has to offer. Current offers from DIRECTV can save you more than $300 during the first year!

The DIRECTV Family package is the entry level basic package. It is a familiy oriented package and includes selections such as Toon Disney, Discovery Kids, the Disney channel and Nickelodeon. This package is also not discounted during the first year, so pricing should remain fairly stable, even after the first year. Local channels are also included in this package, but there are not any music channels included.
The DIRECTV Choice package is a good package for first time satellite TV customers. This is a package including over 150 channels, local programming included. Several music channels featuring XM Radio are also included. All of the big time cable channels you would expect are included here such as VH1, TNT, ESPN, and CNN.
The DIRECTV ChoiceXtra Package is the next step up from the satellite provider. This package includes all of the channels in the Choice Package, plus 50 more channels. Additions you will find here include Oygen, E! The Entertainment channel, Speed, and the Fox Movie Channel among others.
The DIRECTV Choice Ultimate package is the same as the Choice Xtra package, but with a special upgrade. About 11 Premium movie channels have been added to this package, offering you commercial free movie options. Most of the channels come from the Encore and The Movie Channel family.
Any of these packages can be customized with DVR and HD service. The DIRECTV DVR is $7 per month, and DIRECTV HD access can be added for just $10 a month.
For the ultimate satellite TV experience, the DIRECTV Premier package includes over 265 audio and video channels. Never complain again that there’s nothing to watch, as this package includes over 30 movie channels, as well as more than 30 regional sports channels. A huge selection of XM satellite radio stations are here as well!
Now lets look at the HD options available with DIRECTV. Direct TV is the leader in HD programming. In 2007 they announced plans to reach 100 HD channels by year end. While they did not reach that goal, they are still considered the leader in HD programming. Currently, the HD access fee is only $9.99 per month for Hi-Def service. Many of the high level packages above already include this fee in the package price.
DIRECTV also provides access to local channels in 94% of households currently. In addition, many areas also have local channels in HD through DIRECTV.
