DIRECTV HD
HD or high-definition is what everyone wants when it comes to home television viewing. So what does DIRECTV HD offer that the others don’t?
In a word- CHOICE
In early 2007, DIRECTV announced that by the end of the year they would have 100 HD channels available. While they came up a little short, (about 90 at the end of 2007) DIRECTV bypassed DISH Network and all other pay television operators in the amount of HD channel programming available to the consumer. DIRECTV currently offers 95 high definition channels.
So what HD options can DIRECTV offer you? Pretty much all of the popular cable networks are now available in HD including HBO, ESPN, CNN, and TNT. Here is a full rundown on all of the channels available through DIRECTV HD.
DIRECTV also offers fifteen Pay-Per-View Movie channels, so plenty of hot, new entertainment options are available. Local channels in HD are also available in most major markets. As of February, 2008 DIRECTV offers local channel HD broadcasts in 77 cities, representing 76% of United States television households. This number should continue to increase through the year, so if local HD is not available to you now, check back soon.
What sort of equipment is needed for Direct TV HD? First off, a high-definition television is required. So make sure when buying your new TV, it is HD ready. Nearly all of them are, but double check to make sure. Next, either and HD receiver or an HD DVR is needed from DIRECTV. Finally, if you have been a customer of DIRECTV for some time, you may need a different satellite dish. Check with DIRECTV to see if your dish is HD compatible.
What about cost? How much does DIRECTV charge for HD? Currently, HD access is currently priced at $9.99 per month for most channels. DIRECTV recently created the HD Extra Pack, a new premium service of HD networks, available for an additional $4.99 per month.
With over 90 channels, DIRECTV currently provides the most HD for your money. New satellite TV customers can save hundreds with the latest DIRECTV promotions.
