One of the nice things about triple play packages is that you can deal with one company for all of your communication services. Cable TV companies took advantage of this fact several years ago when they began to roll out and high speed internet service over their coaxial cable network. Telco companies like AT&T have responding with offers like the U-verse packages now available to many. How do AT&T U-verse packages match up with these cable television bundles?
With an AT&T U-verse package, you will be able to order everything that comes from big cable companies like Cablevision and Time Warner. U-verse relies though on the local phone companies network to deliver the signals to your home. Upgrades do have to take place though before you can order U-verse service, so many have been waiting patiently, wanting to order a U-verse package so they can try it out and compare it to their cable company. U-verse is expanding quickly though, as more than 2 million customers have subscribed to one of the AT&T packages.
The main attraction to U-verse is the video portion of the package. AT&T is using IPTV technology to offer hundreds of cable networks on the same line that will also carry your high speed internet and voice service. U-verse TV comes in several different flavors, so to speak. Basic U-verse TV packages start with around 100 channels, or you can go for the gusto with the U450 package. Here is a brief rundown of the base pricing on the U-verse TV option:
U-Family $54
U100 – $54
U200 – $67
U200 Latino – $77
U300 – $82
U450 – $112
These prices are per month, and each U-verse package contains more than channels then the number listed. For example, the U200 package offers 230 audio and video channels. The exception is the U450 which tops out with about 390 channels. If you want to add hi def content to your U-verse package, you will be charged an additional $10 a month, with the exception of the U450 package which includes HD. All U-verse TV bundles are compatible with the Total Home DVR unit, which allows you to record content for playback later. There is no monthly DVR fee if you subscribe to the U200 or higher.
Once you have selected your U-verse TV package, you can then add on Uverse high speed internet or U-verse voice service. Checking the AT&T site you will be able to determine if U-verse packages are available in your area, and find out the exact pricing of the package you create. Currently, U-verse package deals can get you $35 off of the internet portion for six months, and you can also save $10 a month if you are willing to sign up for autopay and paperless billing with AT&T. Current U-verse deals also throw in the Total Home DVR unit at no up front cost, so you generally won’t have any upfront charges when you subscribe to a U-verse package.
