Verizon Fios DVR

Verizon Fios service has only been around about five years, yet in that short time frame more than 2 million homes have subscribed. There are many reasons for this, one of which is the innovative DVR units that have been deployed by the large telecom company.

The Verizon Fios DVR comes in two distinctive flavors. The hot item out there currently is the Fios Home Media DVR. With one digital video recorder, you can watch recorded shows in up to three different TV’s at the same time. This eliminates the need for DVRs in each room, which may save you money depending on if you pay for multiple devices with either your cable or satellite TV company.

The Home Media DVR also HD ready, so if you have multiple HD sets in the home then it is definitely a savings when compared to something like the Comcast HD DVR. Right now, this multi room DVR is $19.99 a month, while with Comcast you would pay $15.95 for each HD DVR in the home, and $8.95 for SD DVR unity. The Verizon Fios DVR thus saves you money if you want more than one digital recorder in the home.

Another nice feature of the multi-room DVR is that you can pause a show in one room, and then watch the rest in another. No need to upset the kids as when you are kick them off of your TV the can go watch the rest somewhere else in the house. This is also an advantage over the current DIRECTV DVR models, which can only be hooked up to one TV. DIRECTV is planning on deploying a digital recorder that can reach two rooms later in 2010.

Now if you only have one TV set in your home, a the alternative Verizon Fios DVR is probably a better choice, simply because it costs less each month compared to the Total Home DVR. The Fios HD DVR is $15.99 a month, and will save up to 20 hours of high definition content, or 80 hours of standard definition. If you just want a Fios receiver instead of a DVR, that option is available as well, with a standard HD receiver running $9.99 a month, or a standard receiver costing $5.99 a month.

Verizon Fios DVRs can also be programmed remotely like satellite TV DVRs. Basically, all you need is an internet connection or a mobile phone. The Fios TV Remote DVR lets you browse current TV listings, record programs, and turn on or off the parental controls. The Verizon Fios mobile app also gives you access to through compatible Blackberry devices to your DVR.

Reviews of the Fios DVR have also been mostly positive. While many favor the Dish Network DVR or TiVo when looking for top of the line technology, you won’t be disappointed with how the Verizon has integrated their digital video recorder with their Fios TV service.

Where are the real users who actually hate the limited usefulness of the FIOS DVR.

Limited record time.

No Recording of the Downloaded movies.

No way to actually record a full running Football game.

FIOS DVR I first got was so buggy they had to move me back one generation. I’m very disappointed.
