One of the most affordable cable or satellite television packages available today is the Dish Network Turbo HD Bronze package. If your not familiar with the Turbo HD bundles offered by Dish Network, basically they are channel lineups composed of 100% HD content. While the number of channels may not be as high as you are normally used to, you will find most of the popular channels in the Turbo HD Bronze package.
If you are in the market for a satellite TV company, no doubt you are checking out both Dish Network and DIRECTV. When it comes to HD content, you really can’t go wrong with either satellite TV company, as both offer more than 130 HD channels total when you count PPV options. One thing though that Dish Network offers is the HD only packages under the Turbo HD umbrella. With DIRECTV, you have to order a regular package, then add on HD access for $9.99 per month.
So what can you expect with the Dish Network Turbo HD Bronze package?
The regular price for the TurboHD Bronze package is $29.99 per month. Current Dish Network deals offer a $20 for the first six months of service, bringing the price down to a very affordable $9.99 for the first half year. If you also want your local channels, those will cost an additional $5 per month, and will also be in HD if Dish Network local HD is available in your area.
According to the Dish Network website, Turbo HD Bronze includes over 50 channels. Here is the current channel lineup pulled from Dish Network directly:
A&E HD
ABC Family
Cartoon Network
CNBC HD
CNN HD
Comedy Central HD
Country Music TV HD
Discovery Channel HD
DISH Network ON DEMAND1
DISH Network PAY PER VIEW1
Disney Channel HD
ESPN HD
ESPN2 HD
ESPNEWS HD
Food Network HD
HD Theater
HDNet
HGTV HD
History Channel HD
Lifetime
Palladia
Sci Fi Channel HD
Spike HD
TBS in HD
TLC HD
TNT HD
Travel Channel HD
USA HD
Weather Channel HD
As you can see, the actual number of cable TV channels is more like 25. The rest of the channels in the Turbo HD Bronze package are PPV channels, which you have to pay for each time you order a movie, and video on demand channels. So while the price point on this package is extremely attractive, realize you aren’t getting a ton of content as far as a satellite TV package goes.
Now if this package seems a bit puny, you can upgrade to one of the other Turbo HD bundles. The Turbo HD Silver package is regularly priced at $39.99 per month and will add another 10 channels to your high definition television. Additions in the Silver package include Bravo HD, Animal Planet HD, and the Lifetime Movie Network in HD.
If you want the top Dish Network Turbo HD offer, then consider the Gold package. This bundle is priced at $49.99 per month, and here you will see additional channels like Versus HD, Encore, Hallmark Movie channel, and National Geographic. Both the Silver and the Gold packages offer the same $25 discount for the first six months of service like the Bronze package for new customers.
Finally, if you want even more HD, Dish Network has a separate tier called the Platinum HD package. This can be added to any of the Turbo HD packages, and is an additional $10 per month. Included in the Platinum HD package are channels like NBA TV, HDNet Movies, and Universal HD.
Now one of the great things about Dish Network satellite TV is having the flexibility to watch TV on your terms by using a digital video recorder. Dish Network customers enjoy some of the top DVR’s available today, with their flagship device being the DuoDVR ViP 722. This Dish Network HD receiver/DVR allows you to connect two TV’s, one HD and on SD. Subscribers can save up to 350 hours of standard definition content, or up to 55 hours of HD content. Generally, Dish Network will set new customers up with one new HD DVR at no cost if you are a new, first time subscriber. Check here for the latest Dish Network deals and offers.
Overall, the Turbo HD Bronze package is an affordable alternative to DIRECTV and cable TV services offered by Comcast and Time Warner. While the channel lineup may not be extensive, it may be just right for the casual television viewer.
