Update: 2010 Celebrity Beach Bowl Details with Taylor Lautner and Jennifer Lopez.
DIRECTV will add to the Super Bowl hype this year with the 2009 edition of the Celebrity Beach Bowl. Once again the game will be televised live on DIRECTV’s exclusive channel, The 101. The live version will take place the day before the big game, on January 31 from St. Petersburg, Florida. If you miss the game live, it will be repeated early and often on The 101. The 3rd annual edition of the DIRECTV Celebrity Beach Bowl will no doubt reach a larger audience this year, as WGN America will simulcast the event.
The game will once again feature a mix of former NFL players, celebrities, and a couple of Playboy Playmates thrown into the game this year. Andrew Siciliano, the face and voice of the NFL Sunday Ticket Red Zone channel will once again provide the play-by-play call. The game will be shortened up from the usual 60 minutes, and will be divided into two twenty minute halves. Other famous football names involved in the pre-game will be James Brown, Warren Sapp, Phil Simms and Chris Myers from the Fox Sports Network.
So who can you expect to see playing in the game itself?
Celebrities on deck for the game include Kevin Dillon from Entourage, Christian Slater, plus Blake Lively and Penn Badgley from Gossip Girl. Zach Gilford from Friday Night Lights, Dave Annable from Brothers and Sisters, and Odette Yustman from Cloverfield are also scheduled participants. Several of the Kardashians are reportedly in the game, including Kim Kardashian and sisters Kourtney and Khloe. Finally, men nationwide will be glad to know that Playboy Playmates Jayde Nicole and Pilar Lastra will be on the field competing as well.
Several well known athletes will provide most of the scoring, including former NFL stars Jamal Anderson, Eddie George, and Merril Hoge. Quarterbacking the teams will be Steve Young, who will head up Team NFL Sunday Ticket, and Warren Moon who will head up Team Superfan.
NFL stars will also coach and officiate the 2009 DIRECTV Celebrity Beach Bowl. Kim Kardashian will be happy to see boyfriend Reggie Bush coaching the NFL Sunday Ticket Team, while Eli Manning will coach Team Superfan. Hopefully Eli will not invite brother Peyton to the game for one of those horrible Oreo lick races. The game will be officiated by Maurice Jones-Drew of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Matt Forte of the Chicago Bears.
No tickets are required for the Celebrity Beach Bowl, so football fans in the Tampa area this weekend have the opportunity to take in the game for free. Events start on Saturday at 1:30 Eastern time, and after the game LL Cool J will perform for the athletes, celebrities, and fans.
