DIRECTV Mas New Channels

DIRECTV Mas, the Spanish and English language television service available through satellite, continued to expand its channel lineup with the addition of two new networks this last week.

DIRECTV Mas has added History en espanol and Telecentro to the Spanish language lineup. With the addition of these channels, DIRECTV Mas has nearly 50 Spanish language channels, putting the satellite TV provider at the top of the leaderboard when considering the amount of programming available to Spanish speaking customers.

DIRECTV Mas follows the lead of DISH Latino, the DISH Network Spanish service in adding the History channel en espanol. DISH Network added the channel back in May of this year. History en Espanol focuses on programming from the Hispanic perspective, airing shows in Spanish about great historical events and figures. History en Espanol airs 24 hours a day, and is dedicated to the Spanish speaking audiences living in the United States. Executives at the A&E Television Networks have to be pleased as History en Espanol is now available across all major cable and satellite systems inluding DirecTV, DISH Network, Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox, Cablevision, Verizon FiOS, AT&T U-verse, and Charter cable. Overall, the network is available to more than 85 million subscribers.

The second channel added to the DIRECTV Mas lineup is Telecentro. DIRECTV Mas is making Telecentro available to Spanish speaking audiences in the United States for the first time. This channel’s focus is on Central American news, entertainment, and sports. The network will bring in content from some of the best known channels in Central America. Broadcasts from El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Panama will be included.

Programming on Telecentro includes kids entertainment, family programming, as well as extensive soccer coverage. Newscasts included will originate from several different countries, giving viewers a good regional perspective of current events in Central America. Telecentro is now available to DIRECTV Mas customers on DIRECTV channel 429.

Overall, the channel additions show DIRECTV Mas will continue to battle for the Spanish language customer here in the United States.
