DIRECTV subscribers woke up to a pleasant surprise this morning, the addition of the FOX News Channel in HD.
Many have been waiting for the FOX News channel in HD to arrive on satellite television. It launched all the way back in May of this year. The channel has been in such high demand, conspiracy theories have sprung up as to why DIRECTV was slow to add it. No doubt the transfer of ownership from News Corp to Liberty Media had something to do with it.
Capacity for DIRECTV has not been the issue, at least in the past few month. The DIRECTV 11 satellite became operational recently, and Direct TV has used the added capacity to widely expand their local HD offerings.
In mid-August, DIRECTV added national HD channels like Planet Green and ABC Family, but no Fox News HD. DIRECTV also added numerous HD pay per view channels and regional sports networks, leaving FOX News Channel fans scratching their heads. Up until now, Fox News HD has only been available on limited cable systems, and it is not yet on DISH Network.
But with today’s addition of FNC HD, Republican and Democrat subscribers can continue to debate whether Fox News is truly “fair and balanced,” but now with a better picture.

FINALLY! It’s a shame this was not ready for the conventions this past Summer, but better late than never! NOW – if they can only upgrade to 1080, instead of the ‘good but could be better’ 720p resolution they are currently showing. FYI – my ability to view Fox News in HD did not occur until a software update was pushed to my box this evening. I was unaware they had started to the new service for the channel until this happened.
