Friday Night Lights Headlines Fall Season

Friday Night Lights headlines the new fall season on The 101, DIRECTV’s in-house entertainment channel.

The critically acclaimed show was in danger of being canceled after showing poorly in the ratings over the last two years, but was rescued through a joint venture between NBC, Universal, and DIRECTV. First run episodes will play on DIRECTV exclusively through December, then will air on NBC in starting in February, 2009.

Fans of Friday Night Lights will have even more reason to consider switching to DIRECTV if they haven’t already. The new episodes airing on The 101 will have several features not available on network TV.

First-run episodes of Friday Night Lights will kick off on October 1st, and all episodes will be in HD, as are all programs on The 101. In addition, the series will be commercial-free, allowing viewers to enjoy the drama in a movie like format. While most DirecTV customers who own DVR’s can already enjoy their television more by skipping commercials, the new Friday Night Lights format will certainly please customers watching first run episodes live. The show debuts at 9 PM ET/PT.

Direct TV will give fans of Friday Night Lights even more, with the kickoff of a new companion show starting in mid-October. The new show, titled Live From Dillon will air on Wednesdays right after each new episode of Friday Night Lights starting on October 15. This program will feature interviews and discussions with different actors from the show each week as they review their characters and the episodes. Additional features will include and even take live viewer questions.

DIRECTV will also be bringing back two other series with new episodes. The shows Rock & A Hard Place and Supreme Court of Comedy will start their second seasons later on in October. Meat Loaf returns as the host of Rock & A Hard Place which will air new episodes on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT. The game show features rock stars from the past and present battling each other in various trivia subjects with a few other twists thrown in for good measure. Contestants in the games play for charity. Among the 12 new shows will be battles between Tony Orlando vs. Jeffrey Osborne, Bananarama vs. Right Said Fred and Lisa Lisa vs. Da Brat.

After Meat Loaf, DIRECTV will roll out new episodes of the Supreme Court of Comedy at 10 PM ET/PT. Dom Irerra will continue playing the role of Judge Judy as comedians represent plantiffs and defendants in real-life small claims court cases. Returning comedians to the show include Jamie Kennedy, Tom Arnold, and Tom Papa. The show is produced at the World Famous Laugh Factory in California.

Don’t worry if you don’t catch any of the new episodes as they begin broadcasting, reruns of the shows run constantly on The 101, and are easy to catch at different times of the day. The 101 is broadcast exclusively on DIRECTV, so you won’t find these shows on DISH Network, Comcast, Time Warner, or any other provider. The 101 is included in all of the DIRECTV packages except for the Family Package.
