DISH Network Turbo HD is a new line of packages designed to cater to the HD-only crowd. These HD aficionados, or HD snobs as they often affectionately refer to themselves, continue to decry the lack of quality HD content currently being broadcast across the airwaves. Maybe the introduction of TurboHD from DISH Network will quell their thirst for HD. Well, probably not unless DISH brings back VOOM for these folks.
The DISH Turbo HD packages start as low as $24.99 and go up to $49.99 and are broken out using all of the famous precious metals in order to describe their importance, and of course number of channels as well. The four packages introduced under Turbo HD are Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum.
First up is the TurboHD Bronze for $24.99 per month, and you can add the locals for another $5 a month for a total of $29.99 a month. DISH will also offer their DishDVR Advantage for $34.99 per month which will offer the core Bronze HD package, local channels and a DishDVR.
Next up is the TurboHD Silver for $32.99 per month, and you can add the locals for another $5 a month for a total of $37.99 a month. DISH Network will also add their DishDVR for $39.99 per month which will offer the core Bronze HD package, local channels, regional sports networks where available, and a DishDVR.
Finally the DISH Network Turbo HD Gold will cost $39.99 a month or $44.99 per month with locals channels added. Add the DishDVR Advantage and the cost will be $49.99 per month. This high end package will include the core HD package along with local channels and a Dish DVR receiver plus regional sports channels.
No specifics as far as exact channels and channels numbers were released to really be able to compare the Bronze, Silver and Gold TurboHD packages. All of the packages are set to be released on August 1st, the same day DISH promises to add 17 new HD channels. Update: Find out the latest in our DISH Network TurboHD review.
In addition DISH Network also has another add-on package available for DISH Network subscribers who already have another package. Titled the TurboHD Platinum, it will cost $10 a month and will add HD channels that do not have existing SD channels. For exact details on the channels contained here we will have to wait.
Direct TV has not yet introduced any “HD only” packages, opting to continue with a $9.99 monthly HD access fee for customers who want HD programming.
