Satellite television providers DISH Network and DIRECTV have to be happy with the latest customer satisfaction numbers, which show higher ratings than cable TV operators.
The American Customer Satisfaction Index, (ACSI) is produced by the University of Michigan. This years numbers have DIRECTV at the top of the list, with a score of 68. DISH Network received the second highest score with a 65. The index tops out at 100, and measures the customers overall satisfaction with their pay television company.
DIRECTV was quick to crow about their score, issuing a press release to recap their numbers. The overall rating among all cable and satellite providers combined was 64. While DIRECTV came out with the highest score for any individual company, the highest score overall was a 69 for the “All Other “category which includes several smaller cable companies such as RCN and Cablevision. While DISH Network’s score was the second-highest this year, it was their lowest score DISH Network has ever received.
Big cable once again brought up the rear in satisfaction scores. Notable numbers included Comcast at 54 and Time Warner at 59, but the companies were moving in opposite directions. Comcast’s score slipped 3.6% from last year, while Time Warner posted a 1.7% increase.
Comcast tied Charter communications for the lowest score among providers. Comcast has struggled with its poor-service reputation, as integrating acquisitions over the past few years has been the priority. Comcast claims it has hired 15,000 “front line” workers in the past 18 months in order to improve service.

Having owned both Dish Network and Comcast in the same house, I can’t say I am more impressed with Dish Network’s service than Comcast’s. Ultimately if it comes down to pricing, then I guess dish has cable beat.
I don’t know who responded to the customer survey, but I have had very bad experiences with direct TV.
They quote a price, but will not give it to you in writing and then change the cost a few months later.
I have requested repair to my box. (it doesn’t show Call ID from the phone. I send emails to customer service and they never reply.
Could this survey be funded by Direct TV? I think that I may have to change companies.
I can see why Direct TV and Dish Network have better ratings than cable. I’ve had Comcast and Time warner in the past, and those two have to be some of the worst run companies I’ve ever dealt with. With Direct TV, they always answer the phone fast, thought they arent as cheap as they used to be.
direct tv should remove their comercial from the tv that said 99.percent rain or no rain their is always tv let me tell you something every time their is three drops of wate i my back patio the tv gos off form that is 99.percent no tv thank you
directv is definetlely ten times better than comcast. it has way more channels and the internet is the best ever that anyone could ever think about buying. SO BEFORE YOU GO OUT AND MAKE A MISTAKE WITH COMCAST GO OUT AND GET DIRECTV BECAUSE IT HAS SO MANY MORE FEATURES THAN THAT comcast
