DIRECTV made its mark on the HD landscape once again today, adding three additional channels in high definition. The announcement comes after a thee-month drought in which the satellite television provider did not roll out any national HD channels. The three new channels are ESPNews HD, Disney Channel HD, and Toon Disney HD.
The three channels all hail from the Disney/ABC Empire. ESPNews HD was expected, as the all-sports network launched its HD version this past Sunday, and anchors had been promoting the launch on DIRECTV as early as Monday of this week. ESPNews HD will be on DIRECTV channel 207.
The Disney Channel HD is the second channel to be added. The standard version of the Disney Channel is one of the most popular, claiming 89 million subscribers. Disney channels of the international flavor reach another 54 million. No doubt this one will be a favorite among households with kids. Disney Channel HD is now on DIRECTV channel 290.
The final addition is Toon Disney HD. Already reaching 54 million subscribers, Toon Disney sticks to the cartoon format 24/7. The high definition version will be broadcast on DIRECTV channel 292.
Overall, these additions now bring the total number of HD channels on DIRECTV to 95. Looks like that goal of 100 channels Direct TV touted last year is just about ready to be realized.

The only HD channel I care about is Travel Channel HD..why is this so hard DirectTV? This has to be one of the best channels to have in HD, and still 18 million subscribers are waiting around for it.
