Dish Network Reports Earnings

Dish Network reported 4th quarter 2007 earnings this morning, increasing revenue 12 percent over 2006 numbers. Total revenue was $2.89 billion for the quarter, versus $2.58 in the fourth quarter of 2006. Net earnings for the quarter came in at $175 million, or .39 cents a share, against $135 million or .35 cents per share in the prior year.

Wall Street estimates were looking for revenue of $2.86 billion and .45 cents per share on the earnings, so Dish may be in for another sell-off today. The stock lost nearly 16% of its value after a poor earnings report on November 12th 2007.

Full year 2007 results were also released. For the year 2007, DISH Network total revenue came in at $11.09 billion compared with $9.82 billion for 2006. Overall, an increase of 13 percent. Net income for the year came to $756 million, compared with $608 million 2006. Finally, bottom line earnings per share were $1.69 for 2007, compared with e earnings per share of $1.37 during 2006.

Subscriber growth continued to lag both the historical pace, and that of competitor DIRECTV. Dish Network added 85,000 net subscribers in the last three months of the year, and 675,000 for the full year. The company now has 13.78 million total subscribers. In comparison, DIRECTV added 275,000 subscribers in the US during the fourth quarter 2007, and another 199,000 in Latin America.

Dish Network will hold a conference call at 12 Noon EST today to discuss their fourth quarter results.
