DIRECTV Set to Carry The Mtn

While nothing official from DIRECTV has been announced, word is that The Mtn, the sports network of the Mountain West Conference finally has a carriage agreement with satellite television provider.  Mountain West league sources have confirmed an agreement in principal has been reached according to the Salt Lake Tribune.

While financial details have not yet been released, the Mountain West conference certainly needed DIRECTV a lot more than DIRECTV needs the Mtn.  Fans of the conference have had extremely limited access to the network, which has a current penetration of only 1.2 million homes.  Carriage by DIRECTV will increase distribution more than ten-fold, as DIRECTV currently reaches more than 16 million US households.

The conference is composed of 9 schools throughout the western region of the United States including:

-Air Force Academy

-Brigham Young University

-Colorado State

-University of New Mexico

-San Diego State University

-Texas Christian University

-UNLV

-University of Utah

-University of Wyoming

An official announcement on the agreement could come as soon as today according to network spokesman Hayne Ellis.  The Mtn does not have an agreement with satellite TV provider Dish Network at this time.
