DIRECTV is introducing a new 10-episode series on March 3rd titled the “Supreme Court of Comedy.” Premiering on DIRECTV’s original entertainment channel The 101, the series is a takeoff on the popular courtroom television genre. The courtroom will feature comedians serving for both the court’s judge and as council for the plaintiffs and defendants.
The series will feature real people settling their small claims cases with comedians in there to mix things up. Stars being promoted include comedians like Jamie Kennedy, Sinbad, Paul Rodriguez and Tom Arnold.
Promoted as being “unscripted and totally unpredictable” the show will be presented in HD. Judge Dom Irrera will preside over real disputes. Each side will be represented by a comedian serving as legal council. Head-to-head match-ups are scheduled to include:
-Jamie Kennedy vs. Paul Rodriguez
-Tom Arnold vs. Sinbad
-Joe Piscopo vs. Elon Gold
-Victoria Jackson vs. Tom Papa
-Thea Vidale vs. Gerry Bednob
The courtroom will be set at the World Famous Laugh Factory located on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood. The show will also involve the audience by allowing people to comment on the cases being settled. Audience members will also be able to have “quickie cases” settled in front of Judge Irrera right then and there. Decisions in the cases will be final and case winners will be awarded according to the judgments rendered.
Jamie Masada, owner of the World Famous Laugh Factory and creator of the show summed up the program this way:
“Our courtrooms are already bogged down with ridiculous cases and frivolous claims. ‘Supreme Court of Comedy’ takes these cases out of the courtroom and puts them where they belong: a comedy club. The concept of putting comedians in charge of the law had endless comic possibilities. We had a great time making magic with the Bunim/Murray production team and the gang at DIRECTV. The show is totally unscripted and 100% unpredictable. There’s no doubt that fans will love it.”
In addition to ‘Supreme Court’ DirecTV will begin showing first-run episodes of ‘Friday Night Lights‘ starting in October 2008 on The 101.

I work as a legal investigator and I think this is the funniest show on tv. when you know anything about the court system you can’t believe how funny it is to hear what real attorneys would probably like to say in court but can’t. sure hope this comes out in a dvd. i tell all my legal friends about this show. thanks for the great comedy. sandra
I found this on DirecTV and love it. Dom Irrera is terrific. I love the format. I’ve seen three of the episodes, and I think the Paul Rodriguez one is the best of the three. The guy who was with Tommy Davidson- the guy who used to be on SNL- is REALLY funny- you should use him more. Great show….
This show is hilarious! My husband and I just found it and we love it! We are telling everyone we know that has D. T.V.!!! We hope they make many many more episodes! Jan
is this show real or fake…it’s say the cases are real but have a hard time believing it…is the final decision the actual end decision?
So I went to a taping out in The Laugh Factory like 2 weeks ago, it was John Papas and Paul Rodriguez….it was so FUNNY! It was about some lil kid and parents arguing about her braces (the bill) and when we were off camera they were non stop with the jokes we were dying laughing….it’s a great show!
There are good comments about the show, I didn’t have the chance to watch it. I guess I’ll try to get some episodes.
this show is the dumbest thing in the whole entire world.
This show is the funniest thing ever! I worked in court, and you just knew the judge and the lawyers were all thinking like that. It’s just hilarious, and Paul Rodriguez, my best on becoming a legal citizen!
