Comcast has just about had enough of the NFL network. In fact, it sent a cease-and-desist letter to the NFL Network demanding the channel’s representatives stop encouraging fans to abandon the cable provider for alternative pay television outlets.
The letter, dated Monday, contends that such actions violate the contract between the network and Comcast. The letter also sets a Friday deadline for the network to confirm in that it has halted its efforts to influence customers.
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, the chair of the league’s NFL Network committee, has been at the forefront of the movement. At times, he has encouraged NFL fans to either switch to or explore satellite tv deals.
No word yet on what Comcast will do if the NFL network fails to cooperate with the cease and desist, but no doubt lawyers on both side can expect to bill some more hours in the months ahead.
