Reports from the Wall Street Journal indicate that ATT may be on the prowl for either Dish Network or DirecTV.

So what would you pay for one of the companies? $30 to $40 billion should do the trick, according to the report. That actually seems a little low looking at the current value for the companies. DirecTV currently carries a market capitalization of around $30 billion, and Dish Network/Echostar is currently valued at about $21 billion.

Whatever shakes out of this, serious dollars are being thrown around in order to capture the attention of households across america. Cable companies, offering triple play packages including phone, cable TV, and high speed internet have been pressuring both old school phone providers such at ATT, as well as the satellite TV players.
